Extensive Real Estate Experience in Both Institutional and Family Office Settings
Richard Strasser possesses more than 30 years of commercial real estate investing and operating experience. Based in New York, Richard possesses extensive experience working in both institutional and family office settings.
He started his career as one of two principals in a family investment firm, co-leading the work-out, repositioning and turnaround of real estate ventures owning more than 800,000 square feet of Class A and B office and retail space in midtown Manhattan as well as a hotel in Stamford, Connecticut. Richard drove the financial restructuring of these ventures, managing the relationships with various Wall Street law firms and financial advisors. In addition, he was the lead for active, day-to-day asset management of the properties (particularly leasing and tenant improvements) in this stressed market environment, personally negotiating hundreds of office and retail leases and managing the associated capital expenditures.
Afterwards, Richard spent 17 years as a managing director at Contrarian Capital Management, L.L.C., a Greenwich-based distressed investment firm with more than $4 billion in assets under management. At Contrarian, he was responsible for originating and managing both private market and public market real estate investments in the United States and internationally. Currently, Richard is an advisor to Cerberus Capital Management in the stabilization, restructuring and exit from two CRE portfolios.
Richard received an AB (magna cum laude), JD (cum laude) and MBA degrees from Harvard University, as well as an M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics. In addition, he is an attorney admitted to practice in New York.
